Grinding Along

I've been very worn down this week trying to keep up with the homework load in my four lovely classes. German 102 is beginning to be a little more manageable now that I have a greater understanding for what is actually going on with my instructor, but at the same time I have almost 2 hours of work each day for that class alone. CHUM 230 is another class that seems to have a lot of work and so are ELANG 325 and 350. In the end, I think I am glad I decided to only take the 4 classes instead of 5 or 6 because I don't know if I could keep up otherwise.

I'm actually sitting here in the spare office at work waiting for my shift to begin and wasting my time doing pretty much nothing. I already did homework for 3 hours since class has been over and I don't feel like doing any more today. I'm going to just chill here at work and work on some tournament things instead. Turns out they have installed Office 2007 on the work computer this morning, so now I need to figure out if I can open my tournament spreadsheets using that computer anymore. Hopefully I can because the large screen is very conducive to multiple documents being open at once.

I've almost got the Conquer Club tournaments whittled down far enough that they won't be a distraction from school and I have been very proud of myself these first two weeks at not letting myself get behind on schoolwork. I've made sure to only do Conquer Club after finishing homework. How cool am I? Well.... I guess not THAT cool in the end.

That's all for the moment, but I might have something worthwhile later in the day. We'll see.

What I Like About My Job

There is a list of things that have become very apparent to me over the last week about why I absolutely love my new job in the English Composition Office:

1. I will not have to empty any trash cans, clean any urinals, or deal with uptight professors who think I didn't dust their phone well enough.

2. Regardless of how many phone calls I get about adding and dropping English 150 I will still not have to clean a toilet.

3. I don't have to work in the evening anymore.

4. I don't have to work on Saturday's anymore.

5. I can do homework AT work, and not entirely at home.

School: Day 2

Today class wasn't too bad to start off. I arrived at my grammar class to find Reece Hanzon, one of my good friends sitting in the front row, ready to take the class with me. It was certainly a pleasant surprise. I had wondered if I would have anyone I knew in any of my classes. Well, he answered that question pretty easily.

In some interesting school news I had my first class editing last night. I got to class and noticed that there were only girls in the room and began to think to myself that perhaps the room had been changed and I had missed the memo. Nope, it just turns out that 24 of the 25 students happen to be female. Odd, don't you think? I do.

I had to do some adjusting to my schedule this afternoon when I discovered that the teacher was not going to teach InDesign or Illustrator in my print design class. The other teacher from a different section was going to however, so I have switched over to that class. I didn't go out and buy Adobe CS3 just to not use it after all. That would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

First Day Of School

I had my first class of the semester this morning as today is the first day of school. It was my German 102 class, and I will admit to being very disappointed in the result. I had signed up for that class because I was going to have the same instructor as I did for my German 101 last winter semester. However, I quickly found out this morning that there was a scheduling change and now I have a new instructor who I don't know if I'm going to like very much. He absolutely refuses to do anything in English, which is going to be a problem because 3 of the kids in our class haven't had any German in almost 2 years. I guess we'll see what happens with this. I figure I'll just be doing a whole lot of reviewing at home to refresh my memory on things from the last class.

The only real downside to today is that I only have my German class, and then I need to burn time until work at 1:00pm. After that I have my second class of the day for 2 and a half hours of wonderful editing skills knowledge. I'm glad that I have this big chunk of time between my morning class and work, but I do think it will be put to better use in a few days when I actually have some homework that I have to do. Until then, I guess I'll just keep taking Conquer Club turns and improving my score.

I slept pretty well last night, but from about 5:00am this morning on I was very anxious to get the semester started. With the exception of German 102, I am very enthusiastic about the classes I am taking: Basic Editing Skills, Grammar, and CHUM because they will finally provide me with some of the useful skills I've been trying to find in order to actually get good paying jobs. I bought my textbooks a few days ago and after looking through them I'm very excited. I think that one or two of them will require lots of homework and lots of extra study, but at least it will be studying something I will use later in life, unlike the Shakespearean sonnets from last semester.

The last couple days have had me thinking that I should resurrect the Scrap Judgment blog from so long ago. I think I might go back and pull some of the posts and re-post them here on One Shall Stand just for kicks. I've still got the link to Scrap Judgment in the sidebar though, so if any of you want to give it a look-see, feel free.

Precious Yo-ho Jelly

At the moment I am calmly sitting here on the couch having just finished a rousing game on Conquer Club with Holly using the new Doodle Earth map. It was fun, the map was cute and Holly won, which I'm sure made her feel pretty good.

There is a possibility that we might be heading up the canyon a little later to do a little bit of picnic action, but that is still only a possibility. Holly has to be at work in 3 hours and I don't think we can gather everything up and still make it out there and back in time. If it happens, it happens, if not....I'll eat some corn.

College football starts today and I couldn't be any more excited. BYU is set to face off against Arizona later this afternoon, and hopefully we win. Too bad I don't have access to the proper channel in order to watch the game.
